4. EVENT FEEDBACK·
Discussions took place regarding the event and feedback meeting. Everything seemed very positive and everyone seemed to enjoy it. There were obviously some areas which, where in hindsight, we would have done differently but this is still a bit of a learning curve for us. Steph apologised for the councillors not attending but stated they were there in spirit.
5. PROGRESS·
£220 was raised at the event (after deductions for the morris dancers and supplies).
6. FUNDING·
Dave distributed copies of the accounts; the £10,000 grant from Merseyside Expanding Horizons has now been put into our bank account. We will look into purchasing some equipment in the next few weeks.· Lisa has completed an application to CEN for £500, which will be sent off tomorrow.· Lisa submitted an application to St.Helens Council a while ago for £1000 for a priority themed grant. She recently received a letter from St.Helens Council and unfortunately we were not successful.
7. FUTURE EVENTS
Discussions took place regarding a possible bulb plant event in late September along with some activities, Lisa needs to submit a plan to the event planning committee with details as soon as possible. It was thought that it was better to have it in September then the local schools could be notified· Another barbeque and sale of soft drinks etc· It was suggested that maybe we could have two bouncy castles. This time we would need to hire them, or invite someone along and they would keep the proceeds. The only thing with this is that they would probably charge a lot more than the 50p the friends group were charging and the kids wouldn’t be able to go on for as long. Although we would like to keep our outgoings to a minimum we would also like to keep the costs low for the community.· Gary suggested having a cake-decorating stall. Charge around 50p, give children a fairy cake and a selection of toppings for them to decorate themselves.· George has agreed that the rangers would do an activity, possibly making birdhouses. He will make arrangements.· Ideas to promote having a community garden and possible gardening club were discussed, Steph agreed to put something in the Focus newsletter inviting anyone who was interested along to our AGM.· Lisa will design a flyer to display in the noticeboard· We would also like some more formal flowerbeds, perhaps with herbaceous plants. Some preparatory work would need to be done prior to the plant, i.e. digging out etc. Lisa will need to speak to Brian / Terry about what is needed.· Beverley has already started planting up some perennials in preparation for another plant sale.· It was decided that we wouldn’t get the morris dancers again but Steph is familiar with some dance troupes (one of them an Irish dance troupe and another does street dancing, which should appeal to the kids) she is happy to speak to them for us about doing a displayDiscussions also took place regarding a possible teddy bears picnic in July/August for younger children, again local schools could be notified before they break up on 24th July maybe they could put something in their end of year newsletter. We could even have it mid week in the holidays. Ron also suggested getting the children to dress up their teddies and have a prize for best-dressed ted.
8. ANY OTHER BUSINESS·
Lisa was unable to attend the last ward committee so Steph gave us some feedback· The pathway proposal was agreed and it was agreed that option 2 was favoured by the local residents, it was also agreed that some planting would be done around the corner up to the green box to encourage people to stick to the footpath. As reported in the last meeting the friends group would be happy with option 2 but were not sure about shielding off the area. However, we also stated that we would support whichever option the residents preferred.· Lisa reported at the last meeting that Brian Johnson had been successful in securing £50,000 for Sutton Park for youth facilities.· Steph stated that Brian had attended the ward committee and asked for some money from the environmental fund as they had a £6000 shortfall in respect of a youth shelter.· It was agreed, as far back as the first focus group in early 2007, that the older children needed some sort of provision as the current equipment only serves children below 10 yrs. · However, Objections were raised to the installation of a youth shelter, even though it would be at the far side of the park away from residents, it was still felt that it would be an open invitation for antisocial behaviour · Steph didn’t know that we were not aware of the provision of a shelter and that we had not been consulted on this· Steph will speak to Brian about it· The group has now been going for 12months – It has been a busy but fulfilling year and we are quite proud at what we have achieved so far. · It was decided that as it is our AGM we would have it on Friday 4th July as that is the actual date that we were officially formed last year. · As stated earlier Steph will be putting details in their Focus newsletter, but the Councillors are unable to attend and give their apologies· Dave attended the Friends Groups network meeting and he fed back the discussions relating to the consortium bids for funding and the decisions made on what activity / display we would be having a the Festival. It was decided that the network would have a photography competition with photographs of each park. The network was more successful with it’s priority themed funding application and the idea is the have some calendars made, with the photographs.· The next network meeting is scheduled for 25th June, 5.30pm Taylor Park
9. NEXT MEETING –
